Dev Diary #13 - The Final Stretch

Hello, all!

It's ice cold up in the North of the UK. I hope you are staying warm wherever you are!

Sorry this update was a bit delayed; itch has been having some issues lately and I tried to post this last week but was unable to due to connection issues ;(

Let's go through some of the things coming in the next Zoomies update:

Tooltips

Something small to start the diary off with...

From the next update, if you hover your cursor over a game setting, a small tooltip will appear (following your cursor position) to helpfully explain what the setting does. This should be applied for most settings.

This was implemented due to some players being confused by some settings. Hopefully this will make it easier to modify the game to your tastes :)

Resolution and Screen Settings

Two new options have been added to the settings menu:

Resolution

This is used to change your screen resolution inside of the game. This has been left out of the game for far too long.

Fullscreen mode

When enabled, the game plays in fullscreen mode. And it does not, when disabled.

Also, a small notification bell has been added to this page. Hovering over it will make a tooltip appear to remind you that the settings page is in dire need of renovation. I am planning to redesign this page soon as it's quite messy.

Final(?) Physics Pass

I have (yet again) modified the driving physics. It should (from the next update) be easier to control your cat, most noticeably at high speeds. I never intended Zoomies to be a difficult game, as I just wanted it to be goofy due to simple driving physics. But it's been apparent for a while that most players do not enjoy the driving physics.

They have been revamped to that now it should take more effort to spin out of control. All cats now handle in a more similar way, but still come with their own benefits and challenges.

Race Control - Racing Mode

Relating to the now-improved racing physics, we have a new setting added to the recently-released Race Control feature; Racing Mode.

Racing Mode has two settings:

Classic - The classic Zoomies racing experience! This is the default option and ensures you will be playing with the new and improved physics!

Easy - This mode nerfs all challenges related to driving. Your cat will now turn a lot easier and will not lose control. This setting makes the game A LOT easier, but rewards will be reduced by 75%!

There will be more included in the next update; things like bug fixes and minor improvements too! Also, I have planned out the run-up to the final release. We only have a few updates remaining until the big v1.0 release and there's a lot of exciting things yet to be added.

So stay tuned :)
