Greetings!

Welcome to the third zoomies dev diary. Not many major developments this month, but there's still some interesting changes that have been happening! So let's dive in!

Big City Track Improvements

If you've played the game jam build of Zoomies, you'll remember the Big City track. A fairly simple track with a technical sector that included some hairpin turns. I am happy to say that due to some players having difficulty drifting through this section, it has been finally improved. See a comparison below:

As well as being brought into the new art style; I have increased the size of the whole gardens sector, allowing for both players and AI to have slightly more room to maneuver around the tricky corners. I have also optimized some of the meshes in the area as this sector is the most performance intensive area of the track.

Rigidbodies!

Introducing.... on-track rigidbodies!

All tracks will have some kind of debris or objects that players can accidentally hit and stumble over. Such a minor addition like this helps the races feel more thrilling and chaotic! However, racers should take care as some objects are heavier than the boxes shown above, and can take the momentum out of your cat.

Port

A track that I haven't shown off very much in the dev diaries is Port. A shipping port-themed track that contains a lot of technical turns and some chances to get some air.

The track is currently due a redesign due to the first sector being too umm... well see for yourself below...

I'm hoping by the time the track is finished, I can have this section be a little more graceful for the players to race on!

New Cat!

The racing cat roster has been extended once more! This time the newcomer is the humble Tabby cat!

The tabby cat is essentially a new and improved Tuxedo Cat. They can handle most situations well, but will find themselves at a disadvantage to the more specialised cats on some tracks. But what's happening with the Tuxedo Cat? I'm still undecided on that. It will still be in the game but maybe as an unlockable cat, or maybe a skin for the Tabby.
