Patch Notes - Demo 0.9.1
Zoomies! Cat Racing » Devlog
Hello all! Here's some patch notes for the new demo build. This was meant to be a small bug-fixing update, but as always I create far too much work for myself! This contains some new content which I think you'll like :)
Patch Notes:
- "Very Low" quality setting now disables Depth of Field and Ambient Occlusion in the main menu as well as Bloom and Color Grading when racing (Depth of Field and Ambient Occlusion aren't enabled by default when racing anyways). This should improve performance for users with very low-end PCs.
- Vastly increased torque force for anti-roll mechanic. This means that cats should be more stable when flying through the air after using a ramp/jump.
- Slightly tweaked some drift physics values to make keyboard input easier. A side effect of this also make it harder to spin out if drifting too much into a corner. Pleeeeease let me know if you don't like this change.
- Tweaked some AI braking zones and pathing to suit the new drift physics settings. They should now spin out less, especially on higher difficulties.
- Rebuilt occlusion for Big City track. Now there should be less visual glitching (and no more disappearing buildings!). However there is still visual pop-in when playing on the 'Very Low' quality setting, as a side effect of very strict LODs.
- 'Easy' is now the default difficulty to hopefully give new players a chance to learn the drifting mechanics before getting steamrolled by the AI cats.
- Removed settings menu from in-game pause menu. It contained some broken settings left over from the project template framework.
- Made skid smoke more visible but less populated to save performance
- Added a new track - Spooky Suburbs! A Halloween version of the Suburbs track with a much different layout; this track is more difficult and provides some wacky on-track danger. Just a warning: This track is still heavily in development but I wanted everyone to try it, so be aware that there may be issues with AI, collision, etc :)
- Skidding sfx now increases pitch and volume based on the drift angles, with the skidding sounds becoming harsh when drifting hard and approaching a spin-out! Use this to help control your drifts :)
- Related to the above change, nearing the drift "danger zone" will cause sparks to fly from the back paws of your cat. Another indicator that you're drifting too hard!
- AI skid sounds have been disabled. This is to help decrease the overall game volume and increase performance
- Sparks that appear when colliding with other cats have been removed
- Bobtail cats now correctly accelerate faster and are more limited by their top speed
- Persian cats are now ever so slightly faster at the cost of reduced acceleration
- Removed some unneeded UI when racing
Known Issues:
- Sparks caused by drifting too hard can appear if the cat is in the process of rolling over or in the air.
- AI cats on the 'easy' difficulty can be incredibly stupid. Kinda considering this to be a feature instead of a bug ;)
- Game audio is quite loud and inconsistent. Working on a solution to this.
- Cats can sometimes get stuck in the ground. If this happens to you, press the reset button ((Y) on gamepad, [R] on keyboard)
